Hose Evaluation to Reduce Intermix Risk

The Challenge
Our customer wanted to reduce the risk of hydraulic line intermix on a machine while developing a standardized hose strategy to support future maintenance and stocking.

The Solution
We conducted an on-site hose inspection covering the rolls, calendar and hot soft calendar areas. The evaluation identified opportunities for improvement and documented materials needed to address them.

The Results

  • 32 areas for improvement identified
  • Hose opportunities documented and tagged
  • Materials identified for corrective actions and future stocking
  • Standardization opportunities identified to support maintenance planning

The Outcome
A documented action plan was prepared to address hose-related improvement opportunities and support a more standardized stocking strategy for future maintenance.

Mechanical Seal Support System Survey for Increased Reliability

The Challenge
Recurring mechanical seal failures were associated with manganese buildup in process water, creating ongoing reliability and maintenance challenges.

The Solution
We conducted a comprehensive survey of the mechanical seal support systems to identify configuration, component and operating conditions that could contribute to premature seal failures.

The Results

  • Identified failed seals and support systems
  • Identified missing critical components
  • Identified unstable pressure and flow conditions
  • Identified configurations requiring further review for application suitability
  • Established corrective-action recommendations including system modifications, component upgrades and replacement

The Outcome
The survey provided our customer with a structured path for evaluating and prioritizing seal support system improvements, with the goal of reducing recurring failures, improving seal reliability and service life, and reducing ongoing maintenance requirements.
